Katy Perry Lyrics

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), better known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Perry rose to fame in 2007 with her internet hit "Ur So Gay", and later scored in 2008 her breakthrough single "I Kissed a Girl".

Hudson was born and raised in Santa Barbara by Christian pastor parents and grew up listening only to gospel music. After earning a GED during her freshman year of high school, she began to pursue a music career.

As Katy Hudson, she released a self-titled gospel album in 2001. In 2004, she recorded an album with production team The Matrix, but it was never released. After signing on with Capitol Music Group in 2007, she took on stage name Katy Perry and released her first mainstream album, One of the Boys.

Katy Perry

Perry is known for her unconventional style of dress. It is often humorous, bright in color, and reminiscent of different decades, and frequently uses fruit-shaped accessories, mainly watermelon, as part of her outfits. Her dark hair is signature to her look, but, as the music video to "Ur So Gay" shows, her hair is naturally blonde and she dyed her hair and eyebrows a darker color.

Having learned dancing at an early age, she fancied about having her own style. Perry's transformation into an artist began with fashion, inspired by American film actress Dominique Swain's portrayal in 1997 film adaptation of the novel Lolita. She defines her fashion "a bit of a concoction of different things".Johnny Wujek, Perry's stylist, described her style, upon meeting her for the first time, as "very colorful and vintage". Her fashion has caught the attention of designers, who were giving her nearly as much attention as fans of her music.

"I Kissed A Girl" is very catchy, but the rest of this album is just terrible. She has a very irritating, quavery, screechy, weird voice that I just don't like and the songs are annoying.

Although she may seem like just another pop star looking for attention on the surface, if you look a bit deeper into the songs of Katy Perry, you'll find a clever songwriter and a true talent. Perry first got a true taste of fame telling the story of when she got drunk and kissed a girl at a party on the album's second single, which went number one. She then ditched the predicted "one-hit wonder" status by cranking out a few more hits, such as "Hot N Cold" and "Waking Up in Vegas". While these tracks may make her seem like a "party girl", it was the album tracks that didn't get all the attention that make One of the Boys worth the time and effort. The album starts of with the pop/rocker title track where she sings about becoming more feminine and not just being one of the boys. ("Over the summer something changed/I started reading Seventeen and shaving my legs") The track's chorus instantly grabs you, and it's just one of the many irresistible hooks on the album. "Ur So Gay" tells the story of a man Katy used to date who was very feminine, however it is mistaken by many as homophobic. The album has it's fair share of ballads too. "Thinking of You" talks about missing your ex when you're with your current lover. "Lost" goes a bit deeper, taking on the emotional topic about being lost spiritually. ("So if i pray, am I just sending words into outer space?") Probably the album's best song lyrically is "I'm Still Breathing," because although the lyrics are simple, they help define how blind love really is ("No formal education/I swore way too much/But I swore you didn't care/Because we were in love") and that when it's time to let go, you just need to let go. The album concludes with "Fingerprints." A spunky little pop-rock number, in which Miss Perry (or Mrs. Brand) tells us that she's going to make something of her life and not be "sitting on the sidelines watching it pass me by." Indeed, Katy sure has come along way since she wrote those words. The lead single from her next album Teenage Dream, called California Gurls, went straight to number one, but only time will tell what the future holds for her. However, if One of the Boys is any indication, the future looks pretty good.

Katy Perry is a great new artist with a lot of creativity and passion in her songs. This is how I would rate each song; 1. One Of The Boys- great start off, very catchy. 5/5 2. I Kissed A Girl- major stardom for Katy. Who would ever think of a title like this? 5/5 3. Waking Up In Vegas- A great song that would make you wanna get up and dance. 5/5 4. Thinking Of You- Great ballad. I think the lyrics are just beautiful, now this is what I call "creativity" 5/5 5. Mannequin- My least favorite off the album. That's all. 1/5 6. Ur So Gay- A very fun song to sing along with, but I was horrified at the last lyric. 3/5 7. Hot N Cold- The best song off the album and my personal favorite. 5/5 8. If You Can Afford Me- Another favorite of mine. 5/5 9. Lost- This song is very beautiful, but I find this one a filler. 3/5 10. Self Inflicted- This song is ok, but not the best. 4/5 11. I'm Still Breathing- I find this song similar to Thinking Of You for some reason but overal another filler. 1/5 12. Fingerprints- Great way to end the album. 3/5 Overal 4/5 Buy it!

If you don't have this get it right now... I'll wait ...then we can talk about it.

This girl's voice just takes me over the edge. She sounds great in concert too. Maxim got it right. She's a doll.
