Thinking Of You

Comparisons are easily done
Once you've had a taste of perfection
Like an apple hanging from a tree
I picked the ripest one
I still got the seed

You said move on
Where do I go
I guess second best
Is all I will know

Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if
You were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes

You're like an Indian summer
In the middle of winter
Like a hard candy
With a surprise center
How do I get better
Once I've had the best
You said there's
Tons of fish in the water
So the waters I will test

He kissed my lips
I taste your mouth
He pulled me in
I was disgusted with myself

Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if
You were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into...

You're the best
And yes I do regret
How I could let myself
Let you go
Now the lesson's learned
I touched it I was burned
Oh I think you should know

Cause when I'm with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if
You were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Oh won't you walk through
And bust in the door
And take me away
Oh no more mistakes
Cause in your eyes I'd like to stay...

January, 20th 2010 (12:55 AM) Let me start off by saying that this song is awesome. The lyrics aren't superb but they do the job. And to Katy's credit she wrote the song on her own. The song talks about a lover who has come to pass and how even though Katy's with some other guy, all she does is think of the better dude (her first love). This is a ballad of sorts, and a good one at that. In the video, Katy goes from the "summer girl" having fun, to the lover in the room being caressed by her current flame and finally to the "widow" at the end, with the slick, laced up heels. Her best song so far for a mile. Now if only Katy Perry would take some serious voice lessons because her voice is too raw. That's my only complaint about this otherwise stunning song. 4 stars.

This had potential to be Katy Perry's signature ballad, but in this day and age there just doesn't seem to be much of a market for romance. It's in the same vein as Madonna's "Crazy for You" or Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You;" a ballad you can easily envision young girls singing at the top of their lungs, into their hairbrushes in front of their vanities. Although the sentiment of it is a bit juvenile, the melody and production are straightforward and tender and Perry gives a strong, albeit not immediately accessible, vocal performance. The accompanying videos (yes, there are two) also help illustrate the two different interpretations of the lyrics that most people seem to have; whether Perry is singing from the perspective of a jilted lover or of an adulteress racked with guilt. It's touching and well-composed. This song is a gem.

"Thinking of you" is a blah,semi-R&B song from dance diva Katy Perry. She's gone from kissing a girl (and liking it,hoping her boyfriend won't mind it) to whining about how sad it is to be without her One Tru Wuv. It's a dull song. Perry now sounds like a Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera clone. It's soft rock, dance pop without the rhythm. It's soulless soul. "Thinking of you" will have you thinking of changing the dial.

There honestly sometimes are artist who might have potential, but others who just haven't made any good songs ata all. For Katy Perry, whom last year was really a bit overdubbed as the I Kissed A Girl vixen, has yet to really make the soul shine as her own. For her latest single, Thinking Of You, the third single from her debut album One Of The Boys, shows that she is trying to grow up quickly from being a wannabe artist, to a rock diva. Sadly, I didn't feel the chemistry here either matched for her either. She might have the appeal, but for Katy Perry herself, she needs to find much better songs to think of. Thinking Of You just wasn't at all a thought in the dark. Song: D

While the concept of the chorus line "Cause when I'm with him, I am thinking of you" has been used hundreds of times before, in no way should one assume this song has nothing new to offer. If anything, it proves Katy Perry doesn't always require a 'gimmick', and a song doesn't always have to be danceable for her to impress. On the rock ballad "Thinking Of You", Katy sets aside the drum machines and synthesizers in favor of real guitars and drums. With lyrics like "You're like an Indian summer in the middle of winter...like a hard candy with a surprise center", she shows her depth as a songwriter. But most impressive is the showcasing of her incredible vocal talent...something kept hidden on her previous singles. From soft and sensual with a beautiful falsetto, to strong and pure, and everything in between, this girl's got it. At times her tone and delivery are reminiscent of Alanis Morissette, but I'm sure Katy wouldn't mind being compared to her. Katy delivers a truly moving performance here...A+
